JOB TITLE: Public Information Officer
REPORTS TO: Association Director – Field Operations
FLSA CLASS: Exempt/Management
SUMMARY: Manage and implement public relations strategy, action plans and media relations support for MedStar. Support the goals and objectives of MedStar’s community relations and community investment strategies.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communications & Public Relations
- Develop and manage the short range and long range communications and public relations plans for MedStar according to business objectives.
- Write and/or edit materials for external audiences, including community newsletter and designated publications.
- Support Community Relations and Special Event initiatives.
- Maintain and update information on the MedStar Web site.
- Assist with recruitment activities.
- Assist with MedStar Membership marketing activities.
Media Relations
- Plan, manage and deliver publicity for MedStar through media relations activities.
- Utilize all forms of media, including TV, radio, new media and the press.
- Write and edit press releases and articles.
- Respond to requests for information from the media or designate another appropriate spokesperson or information source.
- Develop and maintain good working relations with the media, including local and national newspapers, magazines, radio and television.
- Measure media coverage.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations and/or journalism.
- Minimum 3 – 4 years demonstrated experience in organizational communications to include publications, media relations and multi-media presentation experience.
- Strong project leadership, management and organizational skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Good judgment with the ability to work with diverse personalities.
- Team player, inspiring, empowering and influencing others.
- Ability to multi-task on a wide range of projects.
- Maturity and self-confidence; ability to work independently.
- Ability to build organizational and community relationships.
- Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of emergency medical services systems and design.
- Knowledge of the Dallas/Ft. Worth media market.
- Knowledge of web-based publishing in html.
